Arslan Khan, Freddie Mac, Mclean, VA, Received the Following Statement and filed a chargeback. Beware of Aslan Khan from Pakistan.

For over a decade, I have maintained a conceptual continuity in my chosen career. I am a manager, an implementer, a problem-solver, and have been entrusted with, at times, millions of dollars worth of contracts. I feel I have exhausted every possible avenue of promotion and experience within my academic boundaries and the time has now come, for my career, my company, and my family, to take the next logical step. Entering the Doctoral Program at University of Dallas will equip me with the requisite tools to become an integrative leader, for the betterment of my company and the security of my family.

I am a highly dedicated business professional with an undergraduate degree in business complemented by my MBA. Now, with 15 years of 'real world' experience, I feel that now is the optimal time for me to contribute to a doctoral program so that I will continue to make progress towards an eventual tenured position. While these past fifteen years in management have provided me with one successive and thrilling challenge after another, I crave those that come with broader and higher responsibility.

Leadership and management have come naturally for me. I am seeking to join Doctorate of Business Administration (DBA) program that will provide a highly challenging, but supportive, academic environment and fellow students who are as committed and enthusiastic as I am to this specialty. The reason I chose University of Dallas for my DBA because Satish and Yasmin Gupta Business College offers strong, principled leadership program combined with guidance from dedicated and practiced faculty. It is a three year AACSB accredited program taught by scholar-practitioners, accomplished researchers with extensive managerial and organizational consulting experience. This DBA program is formatted with a blend of classroom and online learning, designed to accommodate working business professionals. It is ranked #6 of the Top 50 Best Doctorate in Business Management Degrees 2016 by topmanagementdegrees.com.

I am also attracted by the fact that the program is research based and teaches research methodology and reporting and that I shall be involved in solving actual, identified challenges under the guidance of highly experienced scholar-practitioners. I am also attracted by the emphasis on emerging technology, the accurate analysis of business information to enable timely interventions where necessary, and the development of effective strategies and recognizing symptoms of unsustainability in an increasingly dynamic business environment.

While I am in the doctoral program my short-term goals are to continue to strengthen my management skillsby engaging research in leadership and extend the theoretical understanding of Managing technology & innovation and Resources management & sustainable development.  After completing the Doctoral program, my long-term objective is to seek a position with United States Aid for International Developing countries (USAID) where I can share my experience, skills and knowledge to those working in developing countries by providing assistance in research, identifying and overcoming new challenges, and providing new perspectives and approaches to senior management.

My program management experience and my extensive working knowledge of Information Technology, Business, Finance and my exposure to various cultures and disciplines of management through the MBA program has laid a sound foundation for my study toward a doctoral degree at UDallas. In addition, my solid grasp of underlying computer technologies and management science theories provides me with the essential tools to substantially contribute to the program.

The most serious obstacle in earning my DBA is lack of financial support and family obligations. In order to undertake the degree I have no alternative but to continue to work full-time in a demanding job. I understand that the demands of my professional and family obligations could interfere with my studies. I have given this matter much thought and have concluded that, difficult though this will be, I have the determination and commitment to include this additional and heavy call on my time to enable me to successfully complete it.

As stated, I am attracted by the research based nature of the program but lack of any direct experience or training in formal academic research.

The DBA program at UDallas is the best fit for my professional and career aspirations. This program has the faculty expertise to help me reach my goals in becoming a Chief of Party at USAID in near future. If admitted into the program, I plan to major in management.  In terms of research, my interests are identical to the interests of J.Lee Whittington, Ph.D. which is leadership.  Additionally, my interests in Managing technology & innovation, Resources management & sustainable development, would allow potential collaborations with other faculty in the program like Dr. Dale Fodness. Earning a DBA is required in order for me to achieve my future goals. It is also personally and academically important to me. I believe that this program will prepare me with the finest training which is critical to becoming a successful mentor and leader. For that reason, I will fully apply and dedicate myself to contribute as much as I can University of Dallas Doctoral program in Management. In my experience, formal personnel evaluation is often highly subjective and sometimes regarded as a ‘chore’ by managers rather than the opportunity to carefully reflect on the relative effectiveness of their subordinate staff and the reasons for the differences.  I would be interested in comparing evaluation techniques among several different companies and in seeking effective and objective ways of comparing performance.

I would love to sit with faculty to narrow down my research for my thesis.

My career to date has called upon skills and characteristics that appear to ‘overlap’ with those required of an effective researcher. The nature of my work has often required an ability to think in creative and original ways, the ability to differentiate between underlying problems and their most obvious symptoms,a demonstration of determination in seeking solutions and in team selection and team-leading to such an end, and the ability to recognize situations in which a cross-disciplinary approach is likely to be most effective. I note that the curriculum includes formal instruction in research methodologies and reporting and so I am reassured that I can overcome this lack of direct experience.

Arslan Khan, Original Statement Draft Material

  1. Why do you want to pursue a DBA at the University of Dallas? And Explain how your professional managerial, supervisory, and leadership experience and academic background make you an ideal candidate for doctoral study

The reason I wanted to pursue my Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) from University of Dallas (UDallas) because   UDallas DBA program is an AACSB-accredited and  it is ranked sixth in Top Management Degrees’ list of the nation’s "Top 50 Doctorate in Business Management Programs." The applied research program provides each student an opportunity to focus on finding solutions to challenges of the contemporary workplace under the close guidance of scholar-practitioners who boast a significant amount of work experience along with their academic backgrounds.

The program's curriculum, which has been designed to quickly respond to rapidly changing business landscapes, will focus on applied research. More specifically, students will develop strategies that incorporate organizational agility, direct customer engagement, emerging technologies and sustainable and ethical business practices. Courses for the part-time program will be delivered by scholar-practitioners in a blended format that combines online learning and traditional classroom instruction during monthly in-residence weekends.

  1. What are your career aspirations after receiving your doctorate?

While I am in the doctoral program my short-term goals are to continue to strengthen my management skills by engaging research in leadership and extend the theoretical understanding of Managing technology & innovation and Resources management & sustainable development.  After completing the Doctoral program, my long-term objective is to seek a position with Unites States Aid for International Developing countries (USAID) where I can share my experience and knowledge to developing countries by providing assistance in research, identifying and providing new challenges, perspectives, and approaches to senior management. My program management experience and my extensive working knowledge of Information Technology, Business, Finance and my exposure to various cultures and disciplines of management through the MBA program laid a sound foundation for my study toward a doctoral degree at UDallas. In addition, my solid grasp of underlying computer technologies and management science theories will provide me the essential tools to substantially contribute to the doctoral study program at UDallas, with its well-recognized reputation in both information technology and the business world. The interdisciplinary emphasis of your program in management, supplemented by the renowned research center, offer invaluable resources and opportunity for students to learn the multi-disciplinary aspects of management science  and to conduct innovative research that benefits students, faculty, and business alike and qualifications.

  1. What obstacles or challenges might hinder your ability to complete the UD DBA program within the three-year program period? How would you address these?

Following are the barriers that may impede my progress toward completing a dissertation and degree.

  1. Lack of Financial Support & Family Obligations. The most serious obstacle is lack of financial support and family obligations that may lead to drop out of my doctoral program. I understand that lack of financial support, demand of my job and family obligations may interfere with work on the dissertation and I may not be able to complete degree on time.

To address financial pressures I have decided to start my DBA on part-time basis with full-time employment and once accepted for my program I will devote enough time to my studies by drawing a line between my student life and professional life so that I can complete my doctoral program in time

  1. Lack of Training: Second challenge is lack of training. University do not provide enough training (or, in some cases, any training at all) on how to conduct research or write a dissertation. The process of dissertation writing is an unfamiliar one and students have complained about the lack of guidelines and guidance in how to go about writing a proposal, conducting a literature search, etc
  2.
  3. Lack of Faculty Support : Third challenge might be limited availability of faculty.  Sometimes faculty members are too busy to take on doctoral students or being uninterested in student topics or problems or did not offer feedback that students could deal with in a prompt and straight forward manner.
  4.
  5. Lack of Support/Encouragement from the dissertation supervisor and/or committee:  Fourth challenge will be lack of support and little attention from faculty advisors and not enough supervision and guidance on the dissertation. I may have to work with advisors with whom I had poor working relationships or personality conflicts.
  6.
  7. Dissertation Stage: Another challenge will be dissertation phase there are no class meetings or assignments. Rather, the students are expected to work alone to create new knowledge.  Although faculty advisors may provide some direction and support, they usually expect doctoral students to independently develop and execute a significant research project by exercising initiative and managing time.

To address this I will collaboratively work with my peers and faculty members and will create my own dissertation structure in order to take control over my research.

  1. What specific aspects of a business opportunity or problem might you be interested in investigating through an applied research project? Provide 2-3 items (articles; links from the web) that are representative of the issues in which you are interested.
