One of the most formative experiences, making a most enduring impact on my life, occurred during high school, when I joined a group of researchers tasked with designing an underground bicycle parking lot. I spent two years working with a group of machinists and scientists, which helped me to cultivate a keen interest in Physics and reinforced my determination to devote myself to this field. It was from this experience that my engagement with invention began and I am now a patent holder for several inventions that grew out of this state-of-the-art underground, bicycle parking garage: a bicycle storage conveyor platform lifting device with tension adjustment, self-lifting bicycle garage gripping device, and a highly efficient grabbing and pushing device for the underground conveyor. Several of the underground parking lots that we designed have been constructed and are in use in the City of Tianjin which brings me a great deal of satisfaction.

____ University is my first choice among MS programs in Physics for a variety of reasons, mostly my profound respect and admiration for your faculty, three professors whose research focus is closest to the areas in which I hope to also make my professional mark on life: Xie Chen, Thomas F. Rosenbaum, and Liang Fu. Chen´s work in the areas of symmetry protected topological order and tensor network representation, Rosenbaum for everything to do with Theoretical Physics, and Fu with respect to the surface states of topological insulators.

At the center of my world stand the structure of condensed matter and the development of new phases of matter. Nothing excites me as much as turning theories into applications, creating an innovative material that could be used in elevated temperature superconductivity. Since early childhood, I have been especially fascinated by the physical world, curious and driven to explore and understand physical life, how it functions and interacts. I am thankful that my parents gave me a set of encyclopedias as a child, and I made effective use of them. When I was not reading, I very often took something apart to see how it worked and then put it back together. From an incredibly early age, I helped my parents to repair things around our home. While Chemistry and Biology were my favorite subjects in high school, by the time I finished my first year of college, I could not have been more mesmerized by Physics, in love with the study of what I saw as the big picture from the largest galaxies to the smallest subatomic particles. I appreciated how studying physics strengthened my quantitative reasoning and problem-solving skills. I hope to become a scientist with a central focus on theoretical physics and quantum and condensed matter.

I enjoy how Quantum physics has unique properties that require unique ways of thinking about and imagining the physical universe. I could not be more excited about the prospect of spending many decades to come in pursuit of truth - about the makeup and order of our physical world. I look forward to an opportunity to help my discipline advance the boundaries of science we currently have. It pleases me to think of giving my all to something as noble as passing on the torch of specialized knowledge from one generation of thinkers and doers to another. Among my long-term objectives, most of all I want to keep learning, as much as I can, in a variety of areas that I see as having special potential to make me a better physicist. My single greatest interest is in condensed matter, and it would be an incredibly special honor for me to contribute at some point to advancement in this part of our discipline, Physics.

I’ve completed most of the physics courses provided by my college, and I’m ready to face every challenge that comes from graduate school. If accepted to the program, after completing the degree I would then find a place where I could continue to immerse myself fully in research. I hope that I could work in support of physics research alongside hardworking colleagues who love our field as I do, serving on a research team where I could use all I have learned to contribute to the creation of new inventions dedicated to shedding light on the unknown. My ideal career path would be to become a professor in a university, leading a group of researchers, giving myself as fully as possible for the balance of my professional life to the study of condensed matter, exchanging ideas with other experts.

I received a Straight A in every physics course that I took in college and most of the other courses as well, using a broad array of computational tools: python, java, C/C++… From my sophomore through senior years, my enthusiasm for scientific research grew incrementally, bolstered by my elevated level of motivation to perform creatively.

For the past three years I have been working as a devoted member of Professor ____’s research team, focusing on the simulation of gravimetry with weak-value measurement, important for the active stabilization of weak-value gravimetry. I oversaw constructing a computer program using Python to run a simulation of the experiment. I’ve made several important improvements to this simulation and solved a couple of major problems by introducing a new algorithm. Throughout this experience, I have proven myself to be a quick learner and effective problem solver.

When the City of Tianjin, China, experienced the great chemical explosion in 2016, I volunteered in my community to help raise relief funds and set about helping homeless people that had been wounded, buying them tents and supplies and doing what we could to get them medical attention. It brought me special joy to care for people in such desperate circumstances and in need of such great assistance. I like to think that I am also giving my life to Physics for humanitarian reasons, helping humans and their planetary home to protect and to improve their physical environs

I have been learning the violin since I was incredibly young. It was my best friend when I was a kid. I like classical music very much. Whenever I encounter a piece of music I like, I will try to play it on the violin. When I am studying, I also generally listen to violin music. I think that listening to quiet and soothing music helps my mind to function at a higher level. I won the Second Prize in a Tianjin Local musical competition at the age of thirteen. I wouldn’t say that I am an extraordinarily talented musician, but I put a lot of arduous work into learning and practicing the skills involved and appreciated the ecstatic joy it brought to me. Finally, I have closely examined the physics of the violin, how the sounds are produced by the chest and its strings. Nevertheless, these days, I am much more interested in distinguishing myself as a physicist than I am a violinist.

I thank you for your consideration.
