I was born into a family that always encouraged the full utilization of our inherent gifts and I have excelled in every academic venture I have undertaken. I adopted my parents’ standards of how to conduct oneself in life, to be disciplined, persistent and to work hard at everything you do. I have an inquisitive nature and enjoy challenges and mysteries. I resolved to take on the intellectual challenges Computer Science offers and dedicate my life to this pursuit.
I am proud of and thankful to my father, my first role model, and my professors at my Teacher’s College, their tireless service to our community, giving back through the gift of education. Their inspirational examples ignited my own passion for teaching. Several of my college’s professors completed their higher education outside of our native Saudi Arabia. I am turning to the quality educational institutions of Canada; a natural and logical choice for investing in my academic and professional future.
From the time I was introduced to the rudiments of Computer Science, I have excelled in the study of algorithms, programming languages and data processing. Increasing my depth of knowledge in Computer Science through active research and teaching assistantships and or tutoring, I will become fully equipped to bring my goals for the future to fruition, primarily of which are to complete a graduate program, and laying the foundation for my Ph.D. research work. My goal though is to obtain a challenging position with a major institution or government organization in KSA, ideally King Abdullah University of Science and Technology.
I bring with me to the student body a solid foundation in Computer Science, a near-perfect GPA, and financial guarantee from the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Higher Education. More importantly, to aid in my becoming a teacher, I have several relevant experiences. From the time I was in high school, teaching has been my dream and goal. Completing a four-month teacher training course at my alma mater, I went on to help my father, the head of a teaching center for talented students, during summer vacation, bringing my knowledge and enthusiasm for Computer Science to some of our community’s brightest students. Further proof of my commitment to the community is evident in my having completed over twenty-five volunteer hours in Toronto, my home for a year now. Training as a teacher and giving back as a volunteer have made me increasingly optimistic for my future. I am convinced that anything is possible through hard work and determination.
Coming from Saudi Arabia, and having traveled to five countries, I have a worldview that is quite different from my academic peers. Having been educated in KSA, as well as living, working, and completing English education here in Canada, I am able to interact effectively with many people; combined with this is my ability to speak two languages fluently. As a result, I can speak confidently in front of groups of people and am wonderfully comfortable in my own skin. A future professor needs to be able to interact effectively with people of differing cultures. This is what I bring to the student body, as well, one in which I anticipate many opportunities for group assignments, teamwork and projects.
The prospect of a quality Computer Science education is incredibly exciting to me. This is my field, where I feel fulfilled and aim to leave my mark in. Thank you for your time and consideration.
